Beyond Valencia by E-Bike: El Cabanyal, Little Venice & Horchata

Starting in Ruzafa, you'll pedal into El Cabanyal — a fishing village long before it was ever part of Valencia, and it still shows. Narrow streets, low houses, and hand-painted ceramic tiles cover nearly every façade, no two buildings alike. Small workshops still make traditional cerámica by hand on the side streets, family tavernas serve the same bocadillo de jamón recipes they always have, and on weekend mornings the market fills with fresh Mediterranean seafood. The futuristic skyline of the City of Arts and Sciences appears in the distance the whole time — old and new, side by side. From there, the route follows relaxed coastal bike paths north to Port Saplaya, where the atmosphere shifts completely. Locals call it Valencia's "Little Venice" — colourful façades reflected in still canal water, boats tied just outside front doors, no crowds, no souvenir shops, just calm waterfront light and time to actually look around. The ride finishes at a traditional horchatería just outside the city, where horchata is still made the old way from chufas (tiger nuts) grown in the sandy soil nearby — served ice cold with fresh fartons, a world away from the tourist-café version. You'll cycle back through the Turia Gardens, having seen a side of Valencia most visitors never reach.
